B’S IS BACK!
Saving the Best for Last…
Mr. B’s Bistro (finally!) reopens for Lunch and Dinner
New Orleans, La. (April 13, 2007) - Gumbo Ya Ya, Duck Springrolls, Pasta Jambalaya, Barbequed Shrimp, Bread Pudding with Whiskey Sauce are just a few of the many Mr. B’s favorites that have will return to the corner of Royal and Iberville Streets in the historic French Quarter on MONDAY, APRIL 16, 2007. Locals and visitors alike are invited to once again delight in the regional Creole cuisine created by Mr. B’s longtime Executive Chef Michelle McRaney.
Mr. B’s Bistro will be serving lunch Monday – Saturday from 11:30 am – 2:30 pm. Dinner is served Monday – Saturday from 5:30 pm - 9:30 pm featuring live piano music. Sunday Jazz Brunch featuring Joe Simon’s Jazz will return in the coming weeks.
Mr. B’s Bistro, operated by Managing Partner Cindy Brennan, originally opened its doors July 17, 1979 as part of the Commander’s Palace family of restaurants. Since it’s inception, Mr. B's has been an integral part of an on-going process of redefining New Orleans cooking. Mr. B’s is proud to offer regional Creole cuisine strong in its flavorful ties both to New Orleans and to South Louisiana and embraces the challenge for simple and honest food in a "bistro" style setting.
Mr. B’s Bistro suffered catastrophic damage in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, though this wasn’t known in the beginning stages. Cindy Brennan likened the rebuilding of Mr. B’s, which was eventually classified a total loss, as “opening Pandora’s box”. “We thought that we would be able to preserve certain parts of the restaurant for example the bar and the kitchen, however because the restaurant was constructed nearly thirty years ago, codes and permit requirements have changed, so it became necessary to rebuild the entire restaurant”.
The basement which housed restaurant offices, restrooms and freezers flooded with several feet of murky water. The restaurant also suffered water damage through the ceiling and parking garage which sits several stories above the restaurant.
It is known that part of the reason Mr. B’s Bistro is so special is because of the wonderful employees of which many are long term. These are servers, bartenders, hosts and hostesses, cooks, dishwashers who are the staying power of the special Mr. B’s family. Many of these familiar faces can be seen at Mr. B’s including the fore mentioned Executive Chef Michelle McRaney and General Manager Randy Stein. Mr. B’s is proud to say that 90% of the management staff has stayed intact through the rebuilding process and in addition many cooks, servers, dishwashers, bartenders, etc. have been compensated throughout, which is an example of premium Cindy Brennan places on her Mr. B’s family.
Mr. B’s has earned many accolades including being recognized for “Best Service” by the James Beard Foundation, voted “Best Business Lunch” by Food and Wine Magazine, and “Tops for Business” by Gourmet Magazine.
